- It was developed after years of research in reconstructive surgery.
Although less frequently than makeup and hair, even the world of plastic surgery sees the occasional trend. In recent years, thanks to social networks and the candidness of a handful of celebritiesmore people are opening up about the work they’ve done, and is causing the industry to grow. All of “flip your lips” a “ponytail lifts” has become more common, which has opened the doors to more information on new types of procedures, such as the “boomerang lift”.
Started by pray teperMD, board certified plastic surgeon and director of cosmetic surgery at Montefiore Medical Center, and glenn jellies, MD, board certified plastic surgeon and ophthalmologist, the boomerang lift is a type of facial rejuvenation that addresses volume in the face and provides some lift to the cheekbone area. This differs from a full blown face liftthat treats the entire face, especially sagging around the jaw and neck.
“The boomerang lift was inspired by many years of research and work in reconstructive surgery, which showed that stem cells could be derived from fat itself and, if placed in the right area and depth, had the ability to create support foundation and lift for facial structures,” says Dr. Tepper. What is the Boomerang lift?
A boomerang lift is a non-surgical volume lift, but it got its catchy name because of its results. “The procedure was named the boomerang lift for its tri-aesthetic benefits due to its ability to restore and lift the volume of the boomerang-shaped cheeks, help the boomerang regain the appearance of patients aged 10 to 15 years, and quickly return to normal life in boomerang”. a few days,” says Dr. Tepper.
It can treat wrinkles and depression lines in the skin due to loss of volume, but it is not the best solution for sagging skin. “Those patients with significant amounts of excess skin will require additional, more invasive procedures involving incisions, such as a temporary lift, facelift, and neck lift,” she says.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia or light sedation and takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. “The cheek is made up of three specific compartments that look like a boomerang,” says Dr. Tepper. “When you fill these areas with your own fat, you restore youthful volume, create a lifting effect, and soften the depression that occurs in the lower lid margin and cheek.”
Who is the Boomerang Lift for?
Unlike facelifts, which are recommended for people middle-aged and older, Dr. Tepper says the boomerang lift is suitable for a wide age group, starting with those in their 20s. “With aging, the volume of the cheeks often decreases and dissolves,” he says. “For many younger patients, this appearance may just be their basic anatomy. The boomerang lift offers a targeted approach to restoring normal volume and contour to the upper cheek region.”
Downtime of a Boomerang Elevator
One of the reasons the boomerang got its name is because of how fast the recovery time is. Immediately after the operation, you will need to avoid all strenuous activities and rapid facial movements, but “there are limited or no restrictions after 72 hours.” Some minor bruising from the procedure can last up to a week, but you are allowed to cover it up with makeup after only 24 hours.
“It’s great for people who don’t want to or can’t commit to the downtime associated with more invasive procedures,” says Dr. Tepper.
